they had a download series a few years back. I dont think it went that well so they ceased production. Other than that I don't think there is any downloading of any releases. The time will come, certainly. Some of these releases will be too rare and too in demand that they music must get out. Or they'll do some limited edition bullshit like Dick's Picks part 2, gold edition.

I do have several of the Download Series releases, and I really liked those. I figured it probably didn't go over well as a whole though, which as you say is probably why they axed it. Oh well. Perhaps at a later date the downloads will return...

I saw a website, can't remember where, but I think it was last year.. They still had the Download series for sale there. Don't know if it was amazon, or itunes or myspace (possibly). But I think it was one of the well-known places. I don't really use any of them that much, but I browse around sometimes. I see you have some of the Download series, I didn't get any of them, but some I already have from the Archive. Any that you really recommend? I kind of had my eye on that April 77 one but never got around to it. Also June 19, 1976, and a couple from '68,69,70 & 72 (71, maybe, can't remember??). you would think that Dead.net would just have it available as a service to buy these ones still as a download. I'm with you on that, but I do still like buying a cd release when I can afford it and it's one I really want. Hell, I want it all someday.. I guess it's just down to my budget. I have put most all of my Dead cds and a lot of the rest of my collection on my hard drive, but I still prefer playing the cd usually. I just use the mp3s for bringing with me on my mp3 player - sometimes to work, in the car, or in my headphones when I'm on a walkabout, or lying in bed having Dead Dreams to Another Land. But still usually cd's. I rarely listen to my tapes any more, but once in a while, I suppose that is nostalgia, and maybe my cd's will hold that place someday as a key to my past. If that is even Right to say, because this music will always be a part of my life, past, present and future. I know I'm not alone here.

I just went on a hunch. I have found a place that sells most all of the band's releases as downloads. I have bought a few things from a few different bands here. It is also run by nugs.net, who have a lot of free stuff, that's how it all started a few years back.

But I see you really were asking about the newer stuff, so, maybe this isn't help to you, but hopefully someone will benefit from my post, hate to be a waste of space. Don't dominate the rap, Jack, if you got nothing new to say. And all that.

I do have the 4/30/77 Download Series release and think it's great. It's basically a May 77 show and I think most would agree you can't go wrong there. It's definitely one that makes it into my regular rotation. I also really like the one from 4/2&3/89 (volume 9 I think). I'm not much of a fan of later day Dead, but these 2 shows are a great example of what they were still capable of at the time.

You can also still download any of the Dick's Picks shows, but I think as far as live releases go it's only those and the Download Series that are available digitally. Everything after that is CD only for whatever reason. Somebody said they thought the Download Series was probably just a little ahead of it's time and if it came out now would probably do better. I tend to agree...
